Hi Artie - seems to be the case with birds that are by the seaside - others that are live primarily in fresh water area's dont seem to have the dirty lores - I don't know why this is so. :)

I like it, I remeber seing a very similar shot of this guy if not the same one, and I have to say, if my memory is good, the other one had more room al arround and I liked that one better, in this one the head looks a bit oversharpened and there is a big halo arround the bird. Still, great species! Congratualitons!
