It's not often that you get to realize a dream. For many years I have been coming to Yellowstone hoping to see wolves. They were always in the distance. Today........a pack of 5 ran right in front of me and then after a brief scout.........we found them on a kill..... all to ourselves for 7 hours. Usually there would be 100's of people but a friend and I had this all to ourselves except for the last 1/2 hour. This is a pup licking moms face clean after she ate.
Canon 1D Mark 3 with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 687mm at ISO 800 at f8 for 1/640 sec. Bright overcast day. All mounted on tripod w/ wimberly head.
What a great experience! Really like the interaction between the wolves. And the fact you can see a little bit of blood on the wolf on the right. Really helps tell the story.
Amazing photo, Roman! I bet you were jumping up and down inside when you came upon them. I like the image as presented but wonder if the mother's head was a little more to the left if that would make the comp even stronger?
This should be our cover photo for next Mother's Day!
Awesome image, Roman, and I am extremely jealous. I was in Yellowstone in September hoping for this type of encounter, but I had to settle for only glimpses of wolves in the distance (which is still a thrill). I love the interaction here.
