This image was taken on an overcast day which I find ideal for Pileated. You get nice blacks, reds and whites, doesn't
hurt the apples either. Cropped about 20% on all 4 sides.
Great find and capture. I might give it a bit more room left and right, remove the OOF leaves in the lower left and wish for a bit more head turn toward you.
Very nice. Great detail and sharp.
I am jealous of this image as I can never seem to get close to one of these birds. Axel's comments covered most of my observations. I might have taken a little off the bottom and added some canvas at the top. I would also get rid of the out of focus leaves at the bottom. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful soft light and I like the diagonal line of the apple branch. Lovely bg and the apples add interest and color. I wish the bird had given you a better head angle, but these birds are tough to photograph, and this is a nice image.
Ditto what Grace said. I don't see anything wrong with this image. It's just beautiful, even with the OOF leaves and the head angle. He looks like he's dreaming.
Some of my favorite light is overcast. The light is diffuse and eliminates hard contrashading. This image has lots of appealing elements contributing to an over-all good shot. Well done.
Thank you all for your interest, comments and suggestions, I will consider them all. This is one of my favorite images of the Pileated Woodpecker, but I have others, coming soon!!!
