very nice image! I like your composition and placement in the frame and that the bird is looking back in the direction of its tail.
the barbed wire fencing is a nice contrast to the feathers. On my monitor it looks like a hot spot below the neck, but my monitor is not calibrated. Can you lighten the shadow below the eye to make the dark eye stand out more?

beautiful bird! do you have any more images of this bird?

very nice, diane! love the tri-color bg. would maybe crop a little off the right and left. that's to crop off the already clipped barbs on the wire. i would take more off the right than the left, maybe half the distance to the bird. also would level the wire. just needs a little CCW rotation. beautiful bird, the breast may be a little hot, but like cheryl, my monitor is not calibrated and i havent looked at the histogram.

Looks very good to me; agreed that a tighter crop should make it even better. It also looks like the details on the bird's chest are there to be recovered.

By the way, do you have a photo of this bird in flight? I'd like to see how they fly and land with that long tail.

    Hi Diana,
What a lovely bird! I would crop a little off the top - otherwise I like it as presented.

    Hi Diana,
Welcome back...we missed you; glad to have you back. I like your composition, you captured a fine looking bird. I like the wire perch and the angle of capture the light is a little bit harsh, you are showing a few hot spots on the whites. also it would present better if you would crop the blue band from the top, this gives more attention to the subject. I did a few modifications to your image in order to illustrate my point...

Like Gus's repost. Just a little CCW rotation and this would be a pretty much perfect image. These are neat looking birds with the long tail.

Hi everyone! Nice to be back and to be missed! :):)

So...Shadow in the eye, recover detail in the chest, crop, BG and CCW rotation...Good points all of them, thanks!!!

To answer some of your questions:

Cheryl, I do have some other images of this bird, from the same day. It is one of my favorites birds and this images were taken yesterday a few miles south from Texas, almost in the Mex-US border. I saw several of them. This one let me walk really close to him, since I only had with me my 100-400mm lens.

Desmond, do I have photos of this bird in flight? Not good ones.:( I found a group of Scissor-tailed and Fork-tailed Flycatchers in the Tabasco-Chiapas region (South Mexico) flying and doing amazing acrobacies at a pond, but they are really hard to get into focus, I need more practice. It is a pleasure just to see them catching insects in the air with those long tails.

    ¡Saludos!

Hi Diana - nice looking bird - I am going to go against the grain here and say I actually prefer the one with the blue strip in it. Agree with all the other changes though. :) :)

I agree with Lance, I like the sky in the photo also. This is one of my favorite birds that I always try and get a photo of when I visit my Mom back home in Dallas each summer. Alas, it also seems to be one of my nemesis birds as I haven't managed a half decent shot yet.
Beautifully done, the pose, the perch and his colors.

    Another vote for the sky.

Nice image. About the crop and the sky. Gus' crop feels a bit too tight to me. I'd be tempted to crop the top about halfway down the blue portion and then clone the green into the remaining blue area.
    Scissortails are such photogenic birds.

    Well done
    Gail
