Met up with Fabs and her class today at Metrozoo and we had great overcast conditions (albeit wet) for most of the morning. These siamang simians were giving us quite a show.

I like the comp and the eyecontact... It is really nice picture but I think it is way to blue... The colors look quite strange on my monitor...

here's a repost. I warmed up the pic a bit. It was blue light heavy due to conditions.

    Hi Michael
Siamang Gibbons are one of my favourite zoo subjects, but rather difficult to get in sharp focus when they're doing their display.
    The world's noisiest primate !!!
Do prefer the repost and good going to get nice clean eye shots for both animals.

    Michael,

I think getting the expressions and right DOF here really makes this image. However, the bright backlite is very distracting IMO.

I did a very agressive Highlights recovery using S/H in PSCS3 and just a bit of shadow recovery. I also lowered contrast using the mid-tone slider. This amp'ed up the saturation which I reduce in a saturation layer.

I cropped the top to get rid of the washed out branch and arms.

thanks robert. I like your crop, but think the colors are too saturated and the apes dark. I'll try darkening the background with viveza and your crop and see how it works.

Here is my edit taken from Robert's edit.
Increased contrast and slight reduction of Saturation.
