OK, I cheated a little. You said only 1 picture, so I put these together while still meeting your size guidelines. I wanted you to see the amount of crop.

    Canon EOS 1Ds Mk II
    Canon 300 f2.8 L
    1/4000
    f 9
    + 1/3 exposure comp
    EV metering
    ISO 1000
    sRGB
    Image taken 2:42 PM
Sunny day with soft white clouds but bird was in shade

Sky looks good in original (small grain appearance), but when cropped, artifacts become lumpy. I should have used a lower ISO, but, after the fact, is there any way to fix or minimize the noise so it is not objectionable? Any comments will be appreciated.

I you wish you can post one and then the other in another post !!! We will be able to post two soon Our software does not let permit at this time !!

Excellent PS work and the image held well under cropping, the camera does produce some nice files. Not sure how it would do for a large print? Sure would like to get much larger in frame.

The bg is very appealing and love the pose, most are from the side, this is very good. Wing position is excellent and good light on the bird Excellent image !!!

    Hi Guys:

Lovely photo of a Male Allen Hummingbird, other than the tapering tail I would have a tough time telling it from a Rufous. In fact Peterson's says, "Female is virtually indistinguishable from Rufous female in the field."

You have a great capture of the gorget, from the throat up it's fantastic, I would love to get more captures like that. I love your photo, and IMHO, only minor nit is that the body looks a wee bit soft on my computer and could be remedied with a bit of selective sharpening.

    Looking forward to more photos.

    Thanks for sharing

Thanks for your response Gus. You obviously know your hummers. Any specific comment about the noise/artifacts issue?

    Hi:

With my eyes not a big issue. I gave it a bit color in curves with Highlight & Shadows eye droppers, and selectively sharpened the body a mite. I can't see any appreciable noise . . Shadow could be removed on
    gorget.
