    Default Four Spotted Pennant

I have not spent much time out in the field the past two months so it was nice to get out and make some images today. I found this Pennant at Viera this morning hunting midges if you look closely you can see one in his mouth. It would have been nice if I could have gotten the tail sharper but I had to shoot open to control the BG and keep the shutter speed up were I wanted it.

40D, 500f/4 + 1.4 TC, 1/2000 at f/5.6, Manuel, evaluative metered +1, Raw. ISO 800. Tripod. slight crop and clone out part of another berry stem.

Wow awesome Don. The sharpness in the head and face is great and the BG is perfect. You are kidding about the tail right? I dont care whats going on with the tail when the rest of the image is right on.

This is a Juvenile 4 spot Pennant, the adults are blue and black.

    Don,

Terrific capture with a beautiful background! Given the difficulty of this type of image, I think you nailed it. The sharpness of the head and the position of the wings really make this a dynamic photograph. I don't think the slightly OOF tail is an issue, at least not for me. You might consider a bit more crop from the right but it is really personal preference. Congratulations.

That is one amazing image, Don! The colors, the details, the exposure - it all works so well! I agree that he is a bit centered in the frame but considering the speed with which he was moving? I think you nailed it, too. Great image!

Hey Don, one of the best Dflys in flight I've ever seen. The sharpness is very good and I like that the legs are out, really adds a nice touch. Having the subject he's ready to land on tops it right off. You hit this one out of the park.
