    Default Spruce Grouse

I had to be in Toronto for 3 weeks to do some extensive labwork. I had 1 day to go out and look for some wildlife. I went to Algonquin national park, but had no expectations at all. Walking one of the trials I bumped into this beautiful grouse that was looking for some food on the trail apparently. The light was almost non excistend cause of the dense understory of the forest catching away all the light, so I had to use flash. I waited for the bird to reach the forest edge to be able to include some of its habitat. I over exposed by about 1/3 of a stop and FF (-2/3 flash compensation) the bird. Hope you like it despite the flash light.

    C & C are welcome,

On camera FF (I tried cloning out the flash catchlight but decided to leave it in)

A very nice image of this beautiful bird. I like the relaxed posture, the colors, and the exposure. The only thing I don't care for is the flash-generated catchlight (I see you already debated about whether to leave it in). You might consider moving it to a higher position on the eye to make it look more natural. Well done.

What a cool looking bird. Excellent flash exposure and clean BG. The low angle makes it for me.

    Excellent work!

Your judgement of the exposure needed was perfect. Nice work, Krijn! Great bird too.

Excelent exposure job anf great low angle. The pose of the bird is really nice and you did very well including some green stuff on the frame. Well done

One of the best shots of this species I have seen, Krijn. Lovely detail, techs and low angle here.

Hey Krijn, Well, this is another one that made me gasp when the image opened. Superb sharpness and color, and lovely BKGR (wish that there were a bit more green near the rear of the bird). You chose the perfect perspective especially height-wise; you got low enough for an intimate view but not so low as to obscure the feet. Superb!

Killer image Krijn! Fantastic subject and excellent exposure control. Nice low perspective. Waiting for the bird to get to an area with green was a great decision. I am so jealous of this one!

Very judicious use of the flash; it works. Good that you got down to a low angle, put the viewer on level with bird. Good image.
