Caught this shot on a really hot day. Don't know who was suffering more, him or me. Puma courtesy of the Philadelphia zoo.

Thank you so much Cheryl. I'm wondering if I should take out the leaf that rests just above his head. I'm trying to decide if it's too distracting.

or just darken it. have you tried contrasting the eyes to make them stand out more?

Good thoughts. I had dodged the eyes a bit (probably should have done the layers and eraser technique) in PS but they began to look a bit grey and hazy. I recently got the trial version of Lightroom 2 and saw a short demo for portraits that has some promising technique. When I get home tonight I'll give er a try.

I love the pose and would not remove the green leaves -- I think they add nice color to the shot.

    Dave,

One way to modify the eyes naturally is to select them (Quickmask is a good way, feathers the selection by using a soft brush). Then create a Curves adjustment on that selection and lighten the eyes by pulling up and left on the mid point of the curve.

I then did a curves adjustment on the whole image to lighten it up.

I cloned the leave in the back of the head so you could see how it will look.

I like the framing but feel the face is too centered. In the repost I crop from the top. You lose some of leaves though but I feel a crop from the bottom is not as strong for the face.

Thank you Robert for your time and effort. I kind of like the crop from the top. Before I came back and opened the thread again I had gone into Lightroom and opened the eyes a touch also. I darkened the one leaf a bit and along with that I bumped up the blacks by 1 number. Seems to have a bit more punch to me
