Default Crab legs for dinner (Common Eider male)

Out all day Sunday before today's 12 snow ends the January Thaw - I was in search of a Snowy Owl (found it but too far off for a pic). These Eiders have just come off a long hunting season here in Maine so they are spooked easily. I saw a few Grebes feeding by a floating lobster dock and worker my way there and hid among piles of traps. Got some close ups of the Grebes and was about to leave and the raft of Eiders sent their usual "point duck" towards the dock to see what the Grebes were eating - Hence, nice a close to my 500 w/ 1.4 - AV, spotmeter, iso200 just before sunset. This is 70% of the frame.

The water on the back adds a lot for me! I think if you did not tell us the bird was eating a crab I would have a hard time figuring that out?

Very nice angle and portrait. I like the little droplets. I'm surprised the bill looks so dull as I remember it as a much more saturated yellow.

I think that will brighten up towards mating season. Thanks, Bob
