In view of the moose, elk, grizzlies and pronghorn on this forum, I'm a little reluctant to post this pint-sized chipmunk. But I like his pose, perch and attitude, so here 'tis!

    5D, 700 mm, ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/1000.

    C & C appreciated!

Great shot! Like the clean background and the placements. Could use a little more sharpness around the eyes.

    Thanks, Dan. I upped the sharpness in the eyes a bit, USM 130 / 0.3 / 0.

What a cute little guy. I like the repost with the sharpened eyes!

We don't get these guys down here in Florida. I had only seen them in cartoons until I took a trip to MA as an adult. Between the chipmunks running around, and the "Christmas Trees" planted everywhere (we don't get scotch pines down here either), I was just in a fantasy world!

Yes, they definitely belong among the elk and grizzlies. We don't all get to see them very often!

    Thanks for sharing! :)

Hi Keith, cute fellow you posted here (we also get the cartoons in Europe)! I personally think a chipmunk beats an elk or a grizzly anytime. Love the perch, BG is great. Increasing sharpness of the eyes only partly solved the problem with this image. In my view, the whole head is very slightly OOF. Seems the focus is on the flank instead of the head. May want to up your aperture a bit next time to get just a little more DOF.

Nice composition Keith. I like the inclusion of the foliage on the right. I feel the sharpness issue is not focus but processing. Take a look at the link below by Artie Morris 1/2 way down talking about sharpening JPGs for posting. In my repost I did it on a BG copy unsharp mask 2 times at first round 175/0.3/0, and then two rounds at 125/0.2/0.

You should only sharpen the chipmunk and not the BG as I did as the noise becomes noticeable.

Thanks so much, Robert, I absolutely love the result - much sharper chippie than the previous post, lots of pop. I had read Artie's post on sharpening some time ago, and will re-read it (thanks for the link), as well as the USM processing you used. It looks like you applied the sharpening to the leaves as well - which they needed. Will see if I can replicate your result, Practice, practice, practice ... ;o)

Nice shot. I like your repost, Keith. Robert, yours seems a hair overdone in sharpness.

I love chipmunks as well, and there are none anywhere near where I live. To me they bring back memories of past vacations to the mountains... I'll have to dig up a chipmunk photo to follow yours up. :)
