I finally managed to sneak up on him.

I like the colour in the background, but maybe others prefer less?
    Different crop?

Nice closeup and details. The fish adds to it. The BG is a bit busy for my taste and I wish the head were turned toward you.

You managed to get close and I like the fish (Is that a trout?), but the bird's head is facing away. Sometimes if you make a small sound the bird will turn it's head more toward you for a better head angle (but they sometimes leave too!). I prefer a less busy background that does not detract from the subject.

Hey Steve, welcome! Way sharp and I love the color. And the trout. What you needed to do here was to sneak another few yards to your left. Not only would this have squared you up to the bird's head, it would have set the bird's head against a less distracting BKGR without the bright stuff...

Thanks to everyone - I'll try toning down the BG, and work the head angle next time.
