Used the Twirl and cutout actions on this one. I am dredging up photos that aren't too good and seeing what they turn into. This definetly is better tha the origninal!

I liked it before I even got the image opened! I wanted to see what more saturation and contrast would do to it so I gave it a few sliders of color. Personally, I like both versions!

I love that you are pulling out the "throwaways" and making such incredible pieces of art out of them. When life gives you lemons...

    Well, you know!

    Way to go, Joanna!

You are really mastering the abstracts. You should check out Photo Impact if you are a Windows user, it has very cool effects and filters.

You could title that image... "Our economy". Very colorful and creative.

I really like this too. Joanna, you are really getting some good stuff out of your runners-up!

Jules: Why sometimes can I not open artistic filters? Also, there are times the twirl action is not available. I have tried everything. Sometimes it happens when I first open the file and other times it happens when I have done other filters and have flattened the file and the artistic filter isn't highlighted. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Joanna, make sure you're always in RGB or sRGB mode. Also, make sure you're in 8 bit and not 16 if you process images in Camera Raw. I've also found that some filters won't let you use them if you don't flatten the image and/or convert to the smart filter first...not sure why this is but I find it happens at times, especially if I've applied an action first.

I always work with my files in PSD format so if you are using TIFF or another form of file that might be why, also...although I'm not positive. If these things don't help you I'd ask the question in the general photography discussion forum. I've had them grayed out before but have always managed to get them to work if I flatten the image and/or convert it to a smart object.

Let me know if that helps!

Some artistic filters will not work in 16 bit.

That was it -- 16 bit won't work. Thanks so much!
