I'm not certain of the name of this cute hummer captured in Costa Rica with a focal length of 700 mm. ISO 800,
f/5.6, 1/50th. It was pretty late in the day. Greg Basco would know.

It's a beauty Susan! Could it be a Violet-Crowned Woodnymph? I like the way the flower balances the bird. I'd do a little work on the pupil, and I'd run some NR on the BG.

What a gorgeous colorful hummer! I just love the way the perch bends, evidently under the weight (under an ounce, I'd guess) of this bird. Nice BG color although a bit noisy. You did very well with such a relatively slow shutter speed under low light conditions. I like the balance between the flower, the stem and the bird.

Beautiful colors, light, great species. I love the arc formed by the perch. I agree some noise reduction would help this one.

Another vote for selective noise reduction. I have not seen the bird, so I can't be sure, but the blue looks electric!

It's a beautiful setup here. The flower bunch and the bend perch makes adds to the image. Yes, NR and a bit of pupil correction would help.

Gorgeous hummer you caught here, Susan. I love the perch and the green bg, but I agree with the suggestions about noise reduction.

Susan, great composition. NR would help since you had to shoot at ISO 800. Doug is right about the species; it's the violet-crowned woodnymph (sometimes just called the crowned woodnymph). The colors look great on this beautiful male.

    Cheers,

Very nice capture Susan. I absolutely agree about the need for some noise reduction in the BG and I also suggest to made a selective tone down in the eye and to remove the tiny white spot produced by the fill flash in the lower prtion of the eye. I think that you have a very pleasant natural catch light in the upper part of the eye. Some dust bunnies on the sensor BTW;)
