    Default Friendly Sanderling

Sanderlings, although "regular" during the fall migration, are still not too common here so its a thrill when we get to see one (or two like yesterday). They were out of reach and we were being patient for them to approach when they took off towards us, I thought "great, away they go"...but they actually came back down and landed mere feet from us:). Taken in rather low light in drizzling conditions.

    Canon 40D, 100-400L @275mm, manual, 1/160s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld.

I like the angle, soft light and setting. Looks pretty good for this low shutter speed. The green part looks a bit noisy.

Very nice sanderling post, Daniel. The green behind the bird puts it over the top for me, although I agree you might tone down the noise a bit. I have several dozen sanderling shots taken in the past two weeks (Reid State Park, midcoast Maine) but none of mine have this splash of color which I really like. Good dof, and considering your slow shutter speed, remarkably sharp.

Hi Daniel I would tend to agree with the above but would like to see the that strand of weed or whatever it is removed that is in front of this beautiful bird, I myswelf find it a little distracting. Allelse works well with this image, nicely done.

Great bird and nice shot Daniel its always a treat when you can get shots of an unfrequent visitor. I like the pose and surrounding habitat.

Very nice capture here Dan. You got a good angle on this one and a great head turn. I'll be checking mine soon to see if I have any worth posting.
