I gave another try at the nuthatches today. I set up my tripod and a camp chair and camped out by the feeder. As was suggested I shot it horizontal. I used the same perch but used a dfferent background.

    Canon 10D
    Canon 100-400 IS
    ISO 400
    TV mode
    1/250 sec @ F 5.6
    Manfrotto Tripod and Bogen Ballhead

Thanks for the input on my last image.

God's light and love to all,

    Chris

Hi Chris - Love the the BG - exposure looks good - not sure about the composition, i think the two branches RHS take too much away from the bird - just my two cents will be intresting to see what others say.
Bird has his head turned slightly away I fear - standing by with bail money just in case.

Loking forward to the next one.

    :)

IMO, the two branches may not be the best looking branches around, but I find them playing a role of balancing the left side of the photo.

I would sharpen the pic a bit more, too.

    Hi Chris,
I like the composition; but there are a few points that need to be addressed. The background is a bit on the dark side, the perch is busy on the right hand side, the focal point is not on the eye; the eye is not sharp, the head angle is off and the capture angle is too steep. I did a few modifications to your image to illustrate these points. I evened out the background colors and hues a bit because you had distinct blotches of uneven hues of brown all over the canvas, I lightened the background and made the tone more even, blurred out the noise, cleaned up the perch selective sharpened the bird on parts of the body and the eye. See if this presents better...

    Gus,
A picture is worth a thousand words. Though in this case your dialogue along with it is worth much more. I can definitely see the improvement in the changes you made to the image.

Thanks for your work and input,

God's light and love to you,

    Chris
