I thought that I would give you all a break from the Nuthatch photographs :D
So here is a picture of a Great Tit taken today in my Garden, there are lots & lots of these everyday along with the Blue Tits,Chaffinches & Green Finches....
The weather was dry and cold, taken with a Canon 1DmkIII, 300f4 + 1.4, f8, ISO 1000, 1/125, Tripod
Hi Jacqui again, :-)
good position, good bg; only the bird looks a little soft on my monitor; I think because of the slow shutter speed.
You could try some special sharpening on the birds head and eye. I don't mind the tail not beeing completely sharp.
This is a good looking bird. Head angle is great. To my preferences it could use a bit more saturation to give it a bit more `pop`. selective sharpening with a quick mask could do the trick for sharpness
Nice perch, BG and pose. I would decrease the contrast a bit and sharpen a bit more. As for the saturation, something between your and John's version might look best.
The colour looks about right as to me, although they vary in colour a lot. They are quite a tricky bird exposure wise, as the cheek patch is so white and easily burnt out. I like both the perch and background and think it would benefit from a little extra sharpening.
I can't really tell any differences between your original and the one you've just posted here. I agree with Axel because John's example seems oversaturated. Overall I like the pose, but to me the perch just isn't happening - presumably it was a perch put in place. A more natural-looking one would suit the idea better. Thats just my opinion.
