This drake was just about to hop off the log into the water, exposing those beautiful underwing feathers. What an outrageously colorful bird! This was taken last fall at Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary, Easthampton, Mass.

5D, 500 mm, 1.4xTC, ISO 800, f/8, 1/800. Low-angle shot would have been nice, but this bird was shy. ;)
