Welcome to the forum. I will be interested to see if others find it too tight. I like how the tail is not clipped nor the left ear (right corner). Actually, I might have liked to see a bit more at bottom to give the trunk and legs in the water room. I do feel the tight crop makes the image powerful.

I would suggest next time using a higher ISO (at least 400 or 640) and closing down for more DOF.

    Hi Giova,
Looks like he was playing in the water. I like how you captured him stirring things up with the trunk. Personal preference wold be to see the whole body or maybe a tighter vertical crop to just outside the tusks to put the focus on the trunk and water action.

    Thanks for your reply.
Only a question ..what is DOF ?
I not like use iso highter because I not like rumor...
This shoot was made from an hide not at the same level of the water. it is a crop (about 20%) . I have all the elephantt inside the shott ..but I made it to give more rilevance to the trunks...
    Thanks for your attention

    Giova,

DOF = Depth of Field. A smaller aperture would give you more DOF and more of the elephant would be in focus. That is why I suggested the higher ISO as you could then use f/8 at ISO 400 or f/11 at ISO 640 w/o reducing the shutter speed. At 1/800 sec. that is as slow as I would go. The Canon 20D will give you good results as it relates to noise at ISO 400.

After looking at the image again, I think I mis-judged something. I thought the truck was unsharp due to not being in focus which is why I made my original recommendation. However, I think that it is motion blur that caused it as the elephant looks sharp from the tusks to the tail. In which case I ammend my recommendation to up ISO and increase the shutter speed to freeze the action too as an alternative to have the trunk blurred.

    In any event, nice image.

Thanks for the info on how it was created and that it was a crop. Hope to see more of your work.

Very powerful image. The fact that the head is cropped puts more emphasis in the cusps and trunk. I like it a lot.
