    Default Osprey eating a Sheeps Head!

    Attached Images Attached Images

    On Honeymoon Island in Dunedin, FL.

    A hiker up ahead yelled: "Hey there's an Osprey up a tree eating a sheep's head!!"

    After running over with my camera... I learned that day that a sheepshead is a striped fish native to the area.

    Chose this shot to post because of the "eye contact".

    Was still pretty psyched. :)

    Canon Rebel XT with 75-300 f/5.6.

    @300mm 1/100. Bracketed exposure (+1).

    Trying to get all I can out of this lens.

    C and C welcome, thanks.

    ..... must have been fun with the "sheepshead" ... if it was not a fish !!!!

    With patience you will have Ospreys eating in good light/bg The angle here is steep and generally does not work well Getting light on the bird is difficult In this situations expose for the bird and disregard the bg Probably had to open at least one stop more Would have rendered the bird just fine but the sky over Not sure what ss you had but bumping up more would have been good

    btw that bird just landed with his fish The first thing that goes is the head and its intact !!!! Good catch both of you !!!!

    Great pose captured. A setting with less contrast differences would have helped to avoid chromatic aberration.

    Thanks Alfred, and Axel.

    Yeah I wish I had a more head on angle. It was like bam, react, get the best shot I could. I hope to do another Gulf Coast trip in a few months.

    Yeah back then I was shooting jpg, and kicking up the contrast, in-camera.

    I've switched to raw, then only really re-work my top shots of the day. What a difference.

    Thanks and happy shooting...
