    Default Art or just...

Art or just another Hummingbird with blurry parts image? I've got mixed feelings about this one. I was going for a creamy background but my background light set too much before I could get a bird framed in the center of it. There are JPG artifacts in the lower right corner but the background was exposed correctly and fill flash was used to balance the bird. Unfortunately there are technicalities related to how the flash was set up, it's capabilities and the interaction with the back lighting that left me with a little motion blur. The background was not manipulated beyond noise removal.

So what do you think? Toss it or crop it?

I love the motion blur! I am not fond of what happened to the left side, the gray/white area but I do like the bird.

Thanks Carole. I'm not very happy about the gray / white area either. In some ways this is a failed concept :) The cream colored area is the setting sun diffused by clouds. Ideally the central portion of the frame would have been filled with that color. Unfortunately I could neither stop the sun from setting nor make an HB hover where I needed it too before the moment (almost literally) was lost. I got the idea for this from a portrait workshop. The idea was to expose for the natural background light from the setting sun and fill the subject with a strobe with just enough light to balance the subject. All the while maintaining settings that provide a usable DOF and shutter speed to stop action (the failure part of the equation). Unfortunately HB's are fidgety and uncooperative portrait subjects :D

I like the image Michael Just the darker transition area is detracting Would crop a little tighter form the right/bottom to place the little guy more in the corner. The bird is just perfect !!! Big Congrats !!!

Bird is great. If you had had a more uniform BG it would have been better.

I agreed with others on the background. I would also suggest brightening the eye area a bit. And it would be even better if the throat and belly areas of the bird look sharper. As for whether it would then become a piece of art, I don't know.

Excellent capture and very detailed on the bird. Do agree with previous comments regarding the BG.
    Congrats,

Thanks all. I've made a couple of attempts to do something with the BG but my skills aren't up to the task.
