    Default Pelican

    Hi everyone,
I got a call from a friend of mine last week telling me there was this Pelican at the local park where they fish and I sometimes shoot. I took the day on Saturday to shoot. I wasn't feeling well in the morning but I wanted to go saturday because it was one of my only days to go. Besides the harsh lighting I did manage to get a few decent shots. This bird was so friendly it even let me pet it.

    Hi Sharna,
I like the composition, the pelican is placed well in frame; but the harsh sun light killed you. The whites are hot. I toned down the whites and urned in the areas, adjusted contrast and saturation, also selective sharpened...see if this presents better...

Repost is better. You got a nice composition but I am not liking the BG and too bad there is no light in the eye. I would love to see one of these guys, I wouldn't care how harsh the light was, I would photograph it.

Love the grooming pose. The whites are a liitle overdone IMO. Sounds like you had good fun though!

The whites look okay to me. The repost makes the pelican look more grey than white.

Hi Sharna - agree with Doug whites look fine on my screen.

I have a dozen of these birds outside my front door and am yet to get a single shot I am happy enough with to post. Going to have to try harder I think - but to me they are just a difficult bird to photograph.

Secret to these birds is soft light !!!

I like how you got the head parallel and tried for a clean bg !! Sure wish you could after him again with good light !!!

    Al,
I'm heading back out this weekend. Maybe tomorrow morning. I will head out early to get better light.
Thank you guys for the comments on the whites. I knew going in the whites were a little blown out but I liked the pose and I worked this bird hard to get the bg as clean as it is. He was standing near the water and most of the pictures show the bg cutting through his head. I will work on him again tomorrow morning early. He should still be there...he's got a good thing going on here.

    Thanks again.
