I like this very much indeed. A nice low angle and I think the crop is splendid. Great that there is eye contact with the one bird. I don't think it would have worked so well if they had all had their eyes firmly shut.

Hi Amy - Love the low angle and the soft tones.

The birds cut off at the sides do nothing for the shot IMHO - in AL'S words - "if its worth including - its worth including ALL of it" A bit of work in PS - but you can do it.

    :)

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

As the incomplete bird images imply "the slumber party goes on and on". I at least didn't cut anyone's head off - I guess I got the breast of the right-most bird pretty close to the edge (might have shaved a feather or two).

I could photoshop it so that the back-end of the right one matches up with the front-end of the left one, print it and make a lamp shade.....;) (did anyone else have to read "Ode on a Grecian Urn" in high school?)

I am still working out exactly how far I feel comfortable photoshopping large elements out of a photo. It's all part of finding our own voices, after all. Beyond a certain point, I'm not sure it's photography anymore.....

I think I must lean more toward photojournalism than photography as art. These were SOME of the birds sleeping in a large group of them - most of which were sleeping too (though they sure were aware as I inched closer and closer). I can't make it otherwise.

Each post definitely takes me closer to my own vision. Everyone's comments help me to get there, and are appreciated!

    Lady Amy,
Nice pano crop. I have mixed feeling about this one. The more I look into it, the more I'm inclined to cloning out the bird on the left side of the frame and reconstructing the one one the right. But thats me. It could go either way, depending on the mood, feeling or story that you want to convey...

    Hi Gus.

Well, you can have the right side! There was more room in the crop - I was trying to exclude the beak of the bird in the background behind the one on the right - so cropped it out, but i didn't have to crop quite so far....

    Better?

    :)

Cool shot, Amy! For some reason, the partial birds do not bother me in this one. Looks like several of the birds are peeking at you! Love your titles - I have a hard time coming up with cute titles.

Amy, I like your repost because it gives the last bird on the right room to breathe. Great discussion on this thread; always so much to learn and having different perspectives keeps it interesting, and real.

Love the repetition and the symmetry on this shot, Amy. By the way, I think that the little OOF guy gives the composition a bit of depth. Well done!
