I shot this earlier this summer. I haven't cropped this image because frankly I'm not sure what to do with it (feel free to play and post). The sky is real by the way.

I shot this hand held. Yay for IS :)

Beautiful lighting set off well against that deep blue BG. Nice!

Michael, I agree that the warm bird against the blue sky is really dramatic. He is quite low in the frame, however, for where he's looking. I'm thinking a vertical crop and adding canvas below might help, bt I'll be interested to read what others think.

    Cheers,

Gorgeous lighting and nice flight pose. I do agree with Greg that he is low in the frame and with him lookinbg down more cnavas on the botton would strengthen this image. Love the beautiful blue sky too. Had he been a little closer we might have had a tad more eye contact . Many thanks for sharing Michael.

Thanks all for the comments and I agree with them. I "pre-planned" the shot and had moved the focus point to the lower left prior to taking the shot. In hindsight I wish I hadn't done that. I'll give the suggestions a try and repost later. I am thankful for this site. It forces me to raise the bar... and that's exactly what I need.

Lovely! I like the framing as is, but do find the blues just a bit too saturated. Nevertheless a very nice image.

Love the way the owl pops against the brilliant blue sky. I agree with Greg's idea regarding the crop. I'd also like to see the bird a little larger in the frame.

I also like Greg's crop idea. Although real, I still think you should desaturate the sky...and the bird too (but not as much) for that matter. The clouds add much interest to the BG.

Here is how I will have crop it... may be a little boring. (minor color adj and noise reduction)

I don't know if this is what Greg had in mind but I like this crop. Thanks for the idea.
