    This is an Osprey that had just lifted off a platform in Ding Darling NWR.

    It is about a 50% crop from the original.

    Canon 5D
    100-400mm at 390
    1/1250 @ f/5.6
    ISO 100

    Nice pose, eye contact and open beak. I would have gone to a higher ISO 200 for higher shutter speed and you could try to get some more details in the areas that are not sunlit by using curves and/or S/H.

    Agree on the ISO Keith Would try comparing the results between 100 and 400 ... might surprise you.

    Normally like the wings fully open but this works very well for me Sure wish you could have made it in softer light !!! Excellent !!!

    Great pose here Keith! Unconventional but intense. In addition to what Axel and Al said, I would also sharpen the head a little more.

    Keith, looks good to me. The detail is impressive for such a substantial crop. I wonder if upping the ISO but keeping the shutter speed constant and stopping down the aperture would have given more apparent sharpness through increased DOF, but in Costa Rica we don't get to do much of this kind of shooting, so I'm hardly the expert on this picture!

    Nicely done as above but could go a bit lighter all around esp. the darker areas...
