Found this Green Heron hunkered down and "frozen" in this position when we arrived at Peace Valley Park (PA) shortly after sunrise this morning. He stayed in this position so long that I thought he must have been asleep... or dead. He eventually flew off... about 30 minutes later but did not move in the interim. So I know you would like a head turn but he wasn't turning anything. And I know that I am shooting down on the heron but I was as low as I could possibly get on a small bridge over the end of the lake.

Conditions were very foggy and temps were cool (mid 40s).

Typical GH behavior, they can look like statues when concentrating on the prey.
Since the light is sort of flat, you could increase the saturation a bit. I find the little bit of weeds behind him a distraction, especially that there is so little room there.
Placement of the bird lower in the frame works well.

HI Ed Agree with Fabs good suggestions Can add that early in the morning you should be having some positive compensation? Seems very dark as presented !!! Opening in PS is an option but might increase noise a lot !!! Love the pose and bg water !!!

    Hi Ed -

A neat pose....amazing that they can stay still for so long....and I like the reflection and your composition. It is too bad that you couldn't move to a position to have the bird more parallel to you. I agree with Fabs that the floating vegetation is a distraction.

Thanks folks! As always, the critiques are much appreciated. I tried my best to clone out the weeds behind the heron and played a bit with saturation kicking them up quite a bit in the case of some colors. I'm not sure about it. Any thoughts?
