    Default Daytime Moon

Shot this morning (9/21/08) at 11:01am Central Time. I was shooting hummingbirds at my feeders and saw the moon high in the morning sky so I took a second and shot this. The Sunny 16 rule proved to be about a stop and a half too bright (typically gets pretty close though). I only compensated 1 stop in the camera hence the slight add in ACR.

I used the "save for web" method that is in The Art of Bird Photography II on this one. The file size is tiny. I'm not sure how much difference there is between this and what I would normally do (Level 10 JPG near 200K and 800 px on the long side) and this one as far as posting is concerned.

I like the blue tone and almost see-through quality of the moon. Kind of cool looking like that.

When using Artie's method, just change the Fit Image settings to 800 pixels wide and high and that will get you the large image size.

Very nice, Michael! It does appear that you could almost see right through it! Beautifully captured!!!

    Hey Michael,
I agree the blue tone is very nice as the others have mentioned. Your choice of comp also works well in the image. Nicely done.

Thanks everyone. I think this is one of my favorites. I finally thought about shooting the moon during the day when it was actually up and no clouds were in the sky :)
