This image looks a bit washed out. The bg was quite dark when we were there, but it looks ominously dark in the image. Or should I call that good contrast with the subject, making the bird pop more? lol

    suggestions?

    Hi Cheryl,

Isn't this an example of doing exactly what you should have done? With that dark background, you were in danger of really over-exposing the bird, but it looks like the details are there. Did you have any clipping in the whites? I'm guessing we wouldn't care so much about losing shadow details of the slime covering the stagnant water... :D

Amy, there was clipping in the shiny spot on the beak. that was all. True, one need not see ALL the details in the stagnant muck. lol

Hi Cheryl, It looks like the light was quite harsh? I might try to lighten the shadows and sharpen just the bird--oh and the worm!

    Hi Cheryl,
Nice action captured here. you might consider cloning in some texture from a portion of the bid's bill to eliminate the hot spots. and perhaps burn in at about 9% on the section of the body that is flaring out a little. as far as the background goes , see if you can lighten it just a tad not too much, and then use your blur brush to blend it in better...good show, you did good...

    Great suggestion by Gus !!!

Here I would take some from the top and would not mind going with the flow and making even darker Will help the bird stand out. You did well with the basic exposure but the light was from your right side. Would also fix the bill form the shiny spots.

I really like how you compensated for the bird. Do agree with Gus regarding the background.
    Congrats,

Hi Cheryl - love the action. Agree with all of the above - the is one bright spot in the BG that I would fix.

    :)
