    Default Red-Tailed Hawk Composite

    Hi Folks:
Gina & I took a trip up to Madera Canyon today, Stopped at a few spots and saw zilch . . . On the way down, stopped & took a few photos of the moon. Further down at about the 5 mile marker I spotted this Red-Tailed Hawk up about 60 feet on top of a power pole . . . Couldn't fit both the hawk & the moon into the same frame, so I added the moon in CS3 for a bit of interest . . . . Uncle Gus :D

    Olympus E-520, Zuiko 70-300 ED
    AP: F/8, 1/1250s

600 mm focal length hand held.

    Nicely done Uncle Gus,
I like the addition of the moon...:D The bird's eye is out of focus; the focal point is not on the eye, its on the lower part of the neck, just above the wing. You might want to sprinkle a tad of selective sharpening on the eye...thanks for sharing...

I like Gus !!! That is the way to do it !!!

I'm not sure if the eye is a little oof or just motion blur? Tough making an image at the slow shutter speed with that much focal length. If you had a 600 f4.0 in your hands you would be running to find a tripod .... no difference here !!! For the moon remember it is easy to make it larger if you wish since its in a different layer !! Bird wise looks good just wish for a flatter angle.

I like the image, but to me it feels like it could use a bit of CW rotation. I like the dark sky, moon, and raptor combo. But that perch really sticks out in an otherwise very natural image. Did you clone something out from the front of the perch?
Impressive looking bird! Thanks for sharing this

    Hi Gus,
Did a quick re-edit to give you more ideas, I don't know if you will like it or not.

Hi Cheryl; Sure wish I could find a Hawk sitting on a plain old branch. Agree that electrical hardware gives the illusion that whole photo is not straight. However, to give it another look, I'm pulling the power pole over the bottom electrical hardware to see it it might look a bit better?? I think I'll just pass this type of photo in the future as holding lens steady at 600mm is tough for an ancient like me :D:D Thanks for your CC's . . . Uncle Gus

Hi Gus, Super shot of our most common BOP, I always see them on the light posts on this side of the mountain, so your first shot looked right to me!
