    Default Bull Elk

This is a capture from last fall... needless to say I'm anxious for the autumn quickly approaching! This bull was busy quickly rounding up his cows before heading across the water seen in the background. Captured along the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park.

Beautiful John I like how you got the head not to merge with the far shore Excellent pose, love the calling and great light. Might only wish not to have the merging legs Excellent !!!

Well done on the BG with the transition from brown to blue to brown. The elk is well positioned against it and or course the elk looks great - good position and light on him.

All you need is a sound bite to go with it.

John, What a nice looking bull. When he turned into profile the lighting worked perfectly. Nice image.

Hi John and welcome, Nice and sharp and a magnificent creature. The blue of the river looks over-SAT-ed to me. Great timing with the bugling and head angle is perfect. Not sure if it could have been done as it looks as if you are shooting downhill a bit but getting on the animal's level would have yielded a a different and most likely much more intimate image; I am not a big fan of the far river bank.

Is that a bit of ground fog or mist behind the elk's head?

Open mouth bugling with a god head turn is very nice. The color does look a bit saturated, but it looks as if you had great light.

Thanks for all the comments everyone... it's great to be participating here, and I hope to continue to do so in the future.

Artie & Ed - I'm going to check on the saturation... thanks for letting me know how it looks on your end, and Artie - the lower angle suggestion is a good one. Thanks. ;-) Also, if I'm remembering right there was a small amount of mist along the water's edge.

    Hi John,
Love the pose and colors (water could be just taken down just a slight bit for my eye). Nice image.
