    Monarch on Thistle

While photographing Goldfinches on thistle, I had a couple of monarchs feeding on it as well...I finally had to create an image of one

The image was created in the very last rays of the evening sun.

a BB and SB-800 combination was used for fill at -3 EV

    Nikon D300, 500 AFS~VR, TC14EII, ISO 500, CW metering -.3 EV compensation, NearUniWB preset

Excellent detail - from the thistle to the worn parts of the wings.

    Not bad for a 500 and a TC14EII...for a macro shot...eh?

Actually, I shoot lots of smaller sunvjects with this combo since it is for all intents and purposes fused to my camera body :)

Thanks for the nice comments :)
