Beautiful bird, great exposure on the bird. Nice use of the flash and the catchlight in the eye is a nice bonus. The bottom part of the frame distracts my eye with the rounded rock? or whatever it is down there that is out of focus. A touch more DOF would have been nice to keep the tail sharp with the rest of the bird.
These beautifull birds are not easy to get close to, and it is wonderful that you were able to get this image at 400mm. Their habitat makes it extremely difficult to capture an image without bg or foreground distractions.. I like the pose and head angle. I would do some selective sharpening on the bill, and careful PS work will remove the oof vegetation at the bottom.
Hi Ondreg! I also want to say that this is a great image, I like the clarity of colors and the head turn, but I disagree with the name of the bird since this is an Emerald Toucanet Aulacorhynchus prasinus. Great job anyways.
I spoted some of this emerald jewels in Costa Rica but I had not a single opportunity for a decent shot. I absolutely agree with Linda, it is not easy to be so close to this species to take a frame filling image like yours. You are a lucky man. I like a lot ythis image with such a fantastic eye contact and lots of details in the feathers. Very nice background and pose. I suggest to add a litle bit of more room if possible, to selectively sharpening the bill and to clone out the distracting area at the foreground. Very god job and keep them coming.
Hi, Ondrej. Colors and sharpness look right on. I wish they would get rid of those fake tree branches at the feeders at La Paz but I think you did as well as you could. I'm not certain, but I believe that Blue-throated Toucanet and Emerald Toucanet are accepted names for this species but I do agree with Juan Carlos that here in Costa Rica, Emerald Toucanet is more common to ID this bird.
