Hi David and wellcome to BPN. Your first post is not the best for a critique because it is really good in my opinion. The pose is fantastic with that semiopened wings, the ruffed feathers of the neck and the eyes of th egret concentrated on the next prey to catch. Really good. The angle is very nice too and the composition is excelent. Very nice light in the underwings. The image is very sharp but if this one were mind I would add another round of unsharp mask for a better web presentation but this is just mya personal taste. Big congratulations for this fine image

No criticism other than it's very well done. All the key elements are handled beautifully.

Wonderful low angle, lighting, detail and composition. I particularly like the superb eye contact in this image. Big welcome to BPN and a very fine first post.

Very nice David, this image shows the typical character that these egrets are reknowned for :-) However I will say that the light angle has caused the near eye to be unfortunately cast in shadow. If you were close enough perhaps some fill-flash would have helped with that. I also wish for better seperation between bill and neck. Keep them coming!!

Welcome to BPN and very nice first post. Adding to the other comments, I would give it a bit more room and wish the underside of the near wing were visible. Keep them coming!

    david:

Nice capture of one of my favorite birds to shoot (that and skimmers) and at one of my favorite locations! I like the intensity in the eyes. The nit pick i would have is that the angle of the wings, the neck and the head all merge into each other and loses some power because of it. Not that you can pose the bird, but at a slightly different angle those body parts would separate some.

    thanks

Hi David, and welcome to BPN. Very nice first post! The pose you have captured really shows the reddish egret's great hunting style! The bird is a bit tight in the frame . Looking forward to seeing more of your images.

    Good Job Dave, congrats!

The low angle, colors, and BG look super and the pose is way nice.

Would have to agree with the tight framing.

When do you want to go photographing?

I don't really have anything to critique, I just loved it the minute I saw it! It looks tight, but it works preety great despite that! Congratulaitons!
