Default Good BIF working MarkIII in SWF???

    like the title reads.

I am looking for somebody with a "perfect copy MarkIII for BIF!

Somebody that can honestly say that their camera & lens (500 or 100-400 or 300 f2.8) can hold focus and the lens is not hunting or oscillating continually!

    Hi Renate,

Have you consider the possibilities of renting the camera? I almost did that for a special photo shoot not too long ago but didn't work out!

    Thanks!

I'm happy with mine now it's gone through the Canon fixes (bought it last September). Doesn't hunt or oscillate any more.

Is it perfect? Of course not, I haven't seen ANY camera that is, whatever the brand. But now any errors seem to be down to me, which is all I can hope for. I'd say that for me it's at least as good, if not better, than the 1D mk2n it replaced.

The problem as I see it is the Mk3 has a serious image problem. It's been slated so much (and rightly so in the past) by so many influential people ( and it seems more so if they've switched brands because of the problems - understandably) and it's hard to recover from that. Now any little error is picked over and it's easy to assume missed shots are because of the camera rather than some other reason.

Just my opinion, feel free to take with a large pinch of salt.

I like my Mark III a lot. I know Jim Neiger swears by his also. We both have some of the earliest bodies sold. We both do a lot of long lens hand held flight.

It is close to 100 % when I shoot sports such as motocross, baseball or football. I have shot a few air shows as well and my results would have made a good advertisement for it's focusing system. Larger birds in flight are spot on when flying across the focal plane and away from me. I do have much lower success achieving focus lock when they are flying towards me. With small birds or if my subject is far off it drops even lower if my subject is not a good bit larger in the frame then my selected focus point.

Edit :I should add I have one of the lowest serial #'s I have seen from various discussions on the respective forums. It has been back to Canon Svc. when they claimed it was "user error" and then for the submirror fix. After trying numerous combinations of CF settings I think I have finally dialed it in to where it performs well enough over the spectrum of what I demand from it. Not quite as good as I had hoped for when purchased since my main passion is BIF but now at a manageable level of acceptable images in focus. When it performs it's stunning.

Agree with Maxis, I dont know if that exists...

Looking at the Canon 1D timeline, the MKIII is way overdue for a replacement anyway. For all the Canon users lets just hope they dont pull a 5DII/50D and keep the same slightly updated but outdated AF system :D
