you certainly have gotten great eye contact from one of them, and sharpness and detail in their faces! On my monitor their seems to be a cast/haze or something over the bg fur.
To me, the lack of activity, the posture with their heads down on the ground (or something,) and one facing the other direction gives me a feeling more of sadness/dejection etc than the image does of friendship.
I like the poses very much particularly like the strong mood. Tried a couple of things in PS Small curves adjustment to correct a minor cast and bring the dark values up then selected the eye an lighten the white/darken the pupil. You could also darken the corners to draw the eye toward the center. Excellent !!!
