We don't get fog very often here in South Florida, so when we get it, it's really exciting.
This young female Anhinga was awake before the sun was out, making for an enviromental scene.

Striking image Fab and a wonderful composition. Love the coloring in the sky amd your choice of DOF. Very artistic capture and you certainly captured the moment.

Great shot Fabs - very moody. The out of focus background/foreground has a soft focus feel to it. Have you done anything to it or is it just the great bokeh of the 200-400. Got to be impressed with the D3 @ iso 2000!

    Both!

    The DOF is as photographed.

What I did for post-processing was blur the bottom half slightly with NikSharpener blur brush, and lower the opacity.
Make a duplicate layer and use Smart sharpen, create a layer mask and erase the effect from everything except the bird and the branch.

Thank you all for your comments. Can't wait to have fog again soon, maybe San Diego :)

You certainly made best of that fog! The toutch of fillflash really turns this into a beauty.A very well balanced photograph. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the relfection of the flash on those wet leafs...not a biggy though.
