This immature red tailed hawk flew almost directly over my car blind going after something on the other side. To me, that is the key to photographing raptors from roadways. Just park your vehicle where you think the bird may fly and hope for the best. In this case, I really wasn't prepared for him to go right at me. Hence the cropped wings.
Great capture at what sounds like an unexpected moment. I'm not familiar with this species in the wild, but to me the image looks a little flat...could it do with a contrast boost? Really great pose, exp and subject, and I think the crop works very well. Terrific!
Nice detail and tension in the shot. Given that the wings were clipped by the closeness, I think you could crop a little closer to bring out more intensity in the eyes.
