    Default Pectoral Sandpiper

I stumbled across this very accomadating Pectoral Sandpiper feeding in a very small pond while birding at Cape Race yesterday. Cape Race is at the end of a 20 km dirt road, that leads to the most southern tip of the Avalon Penninsula in Newfoundland. In order to get to this bird I had to scale a 75 foot rock embankment extremly slowly, so I didn't flush the bird. I then led flat on some of the most rocky and muddy ground imagineable. Complicating the situation was very bright late afternoon sun, which caused me to constantly change my position by sliding very slowly, thereby, ensuring I was entirely coated in mud! The bird was not bothered by my presence and at times came too close for me to focus. I would have liked to remove my 1.4 extender but left the lens caps in the car. Well here is the result, all comments welcome.

Needs a bit of CCW rotation to me. Good work not to scare him off. We should have had a pic of you!

    Hi Dave,
Excellent capture. I like the pano crop. colors are beautiful and your details are sharp. The head angle could use a slight rotation...

Excellent capture Dave. Bird is sharp and well exposed. Like the way you framed the subject. Agree with Jackie regarding the CC rotation. Overall a great shot.

    I like it Dave !!!!

Would like to see a little more room particularly at the bottom for the virtual feel, they are awfully close. Would also lighten the image and work on the eye without a catchlight looks lifeless. Do like the low angle and pose very much, the bg is appealing and you came up with an excellent image !!!!

Hi Dave - agree with AL'S comments - especially the eye - wont be too hard in P.S. to give it some life.

Love that 3-dimensional look of your photo. Good, solid colors. Sharp details. Yeah, need to get that rotation done to make it even better.
