My wife and I spent this morning at Sandy Hook (NJ). This particular image was made out on the North Beach where we happened to run into one Axel Hildebrandt. It was fun (and educational) to watch him work the birds along the shoreline. No doubt his images will be excellent - better than mine! ;):) So I better get one up before he does! :D

Image made with my Canon 30D and 300mm f/2.8L IS with a Canon 2x TC; handheld

    1/1000 sec at f/10; ISO 800; 0 EV; Focal length 600mm (35mm equivalent of 960mm)

hi ed. you got a beautiful bird there. looks like the light was a little harsh here and coming from the right. would have been better to try to get your shadow pointed at the bird. the bg is awesome and the bird looks great as placed in the frame. must have been a treat to meet axel!!

Great head angle and specimen, BG looks good, too. The light is a bit harsh but you handled it well. It's been a very pleasant surprise to meet you again.

Nice low angle Ed and the head angle is great. Sharpness is good. Harsh light has already been mentioned. Other than the light quality well done.

The pose is perfect and I like the low perspective. Perfect placeement of the bird in the frame. and a nice setting. The drawback to this image is the light angle. The rather harsh light coming from the right has left shadows on the face, belly and chest. For birds, it is usualy best to have direct frontal lighting by pointing your shadow at the bird, but along shorelines it can be difficult to put yourself in the correct position.
