Backlighting was used in this image to rim the prairie dog in a golden hue. Three different curve adjustment layers in Photoshop where used to tame the contrast and bring-out detail in the rim lighting. I created the image almost lying on my belly – this is where getting low matters as I was able to get a nicely blurred background.
Hi Robert,
Great angle and BG. I like the rimlighting too. Surprised to see you used a 600 with the TC. Last time I was there these guys would climb on my legs when I tried to get low angle shots on them.
I was using that set-up to photograph Eastern Meadow Larks and then got on him a ways off. But your right, don't really need super long lens to get them.
Nicely done, Robert. I do find myself missing the eye contact on the left side but otherwise it's a great image. Getting down low made all the difference with this little guy!
Hi Robert. These little guys can be very photogenic. The low angle works well here and the rim lighting is a nice effect. The raised paw makes for a very nice pose. All in all, very well done. Maybe a bit more room at the top?
