Anything I can do to improve this? For myself, I am pleased with the background and the lighting. And I think I got the proper Head Angle.

Nice portrait Paul!. I like the light and the BG. The head angle would actually be improved if the bird were looking more towards you. I might consider a tighter crop. Thanks for posting!

Looks like its growing a new set of feathers along it's neck. Composition-wise I would crop off some at left to have the bird's body start off near the corner. I would also tone down the bright patch in URC. The twig is certainly a nice bonus :-)

I looooooove the BG and the head turn is good enought for me, I also like hoy the head get that ray of light as the body is in shadows, color are great and the twig is a big plus! Congratulations!

Mottled lighting usually doesn't work well, but because the birds face is well lit it works in this image. Good exposure control and sharpness. The stick is a bonus, but it appears that the lower end was obscured by foliage. Daniel's advice on composition and removing the bright spot on the BG will improve the image.
