Hi, well, to start let me say that I love the species and the perch, I might have left more room at hte bottom, also I would like to know if this is a crop or a full frame as I see a little lack of sharpness, maybe the BG was just too close to the bird and because of this the BG looks too bussy, fill flash woul've helped to bring up some details and colors, maybe a bit more saturation would help too. Still I like the shot very much. Congratulations and welcome!!

Nice image as a start :)
Big welcome here where you can learn a lot.
Composition wise the image is nice. I see quite a lot of noise in the background. I guess some selective sharpening needed on the kestrel.
    Keep posting :)

Great perch and pose. The BG doesn't bother me at all, except for the bright area above the bird's head. I would definitely sharpen the bird some more. Thanks for posting!

Big welcome and a very nice first pose. Wonderful subject and pose but I too see noise in the BG and the kestrel appears a little soft. Not an easy subject to capture and you did well here. Most of them I see tend to be perched on a wire. Many thanks for sharing and we look forward to your future posts.

Welcome doghouse. Lovely bird. BG is fine apart from light areas. Main issue is softness and noise - makes it look as though this was a significant crop. Have done some work darkening the light areas in the BG, smoothing noise and selective sharpening the bird. I am sure you can get more out of the original file especially if it was a raw capture. Look forward to more of your pictures.

    Welcome to BPN !

This kestral is a beautiful subject, and I like the perch. The bird's pose is very nice and your composition is good - the bird has less room behind than in front, The background is not ideal....it is just too busy, and the lighter areas of the BG draw the eye away from the subject. If it works with your ideas of what should be done to an image in post processing, you could vastly improve this image by working on the BG. You could tone down or eliminate the lighter parts, and blur the rest of the background so that it is less objectionable. I also wonder if this was a hefty crop, since I also see the lack of sharpness that Ramon mentioned. You could sharpen just the bird with a Quick Mask. Very nice capture.

Here's my PP optimization, hope you don't mind the intrusion, although it works for internet I don't think this image would holp up goo as a big print, but the field is out there waiting for us to go and improve ourselves every time we want! So keep them coming! I have taken a lot of noise off and with this tool I have also removed some detail from the BG without bluring it (I don't like digitally blurred BGs), I have also sharpened the bird and give the hole image a warmer color temperature and a bit of saturation. Just trying to get its 100%
