I liked the mean look . Any comments welcome - in particular, does the shadow of the wing on the bird's body, in this harsh lighting, spoil the image?

    Hi Richard

I think it does? Hard going after white birds with full sun !!! One other thing point out is that making images of birds in flight from the side with wings parallel to the body is like photographing pancakes !!!!!

I like the exposure, not sure how you managed but the whites are intact and shadows have deatail. I do see by the feet evidence of shadow highlight, the darks look musshy. Would also crop a little different cropping from top and bottom and having more room up front for the bird to fly into !!!

Your worst conditions to photograph are with the sun out past mid morining but if you get fog or heavy overcast you are good for the entire day !!!! btw I could tell the image was made with a Nikon by looking at that beautiful blue sky, its unique to the brand !!!! Love it !!!

It's great that you're having success with hand held flight; it's not easy for most photographers. That said, I agree with Al's points regarding wing position and light. Keep up the good work.

    Hi Richard,
You are killing yourself by shooting in this harsh light. Agree with Mr. Forns' comments. Added canvas to your capture; off centering your bird a bit...
