Alternate plumage Avocet are one of my favorites. The body angle is not ideal but I like the head and neck.

    Canon ID MkIII 500 mm f4 +2x 1/2000 at f10 ISO 400

I learned a lot from my last post so take your best shots.

    Thanks

    Hi Bill

A couple of things that will help out. First check the post size, its 54.7 KB when you can use 200? Not sure why would you choose to post that small. Also the bird is a bit tight in frame, would like having more room up front and maybe at the bottom. Image made with harsh light. With the sun lower in the horizon you will have even light on the bird avoiding the shadows in the legs and under neck.

Do like the pose and head angle with the great eye contact. A very nice looking bird !!!

Thanks for the comments. My browser shows the file size a 154 k not 54. I agree about the light but not being a full time pro sometimes I get out at the wrong time of day. I like the idea of more space in front of the bird and I am not sure why I did that. In a week I have learned a new list of things to look at. I have always spent my time on detail of the subject and take sharpness without enough thought to composition. always something to learn

I like your image as presented. Bird is very sharp and well exposed considering the harsh light.
