    Hi Mike, I agree the cardinal is beautiful but I think this time you've fallen into the same trap as I (too frequently) have, which is wanting to keep a picture we love even when it doesn't meet the criteria. In this case, the background is too busy, the light is too mixed and there are distracting elements. My advice is keep looking for images where the light is right and the subject is not lost in the background. Your squirrel and the flowers were much better images because of that. Keep working!

    I second the advice from Katie because the cardinal (and I find the female especially pretty) a beautiful bird. I find them quite elusive and haven't even got any close to your shot. If you are close to home could you make a blind of any kind (maybe just a bedsheet) or something and get a little closer to get the bird bigger in the frame?
    Also find the BG a little to busy! Keep trying:)

    Mike, Mike , Mike;
    You are going to get twenty lashes...:eek: Remember what I told you about the busy backgrounds...Your bird might as well wear a camo suit. He blends in with the leaves...:cool: Before squeezing the trigger; compose in camera. Look at whats behind your subject first...:cool:
