This looks like the right forum for me. I mistakenly posted to one of the upper level ones. This shot was taken on Carmel River State Beach in California. I was unable to get a good head angle and perfect light so I cloned out some shadow. This shot was taken with a Canon 1D MkIII 500mm f4 lens plus 2x converter. A ground pod and a frisbie complete the outfit. Iso 500 Shutter speed 1/800 f10 with +1/3 compensation. .

I still don't understand how to post a picture to this site. Or maybe I am not allowed to. I am posted a link instead.

Reason: Trying to learn
Hi Bill,
Your bird looks a bit flat, and the capture angle is a bit steep looking down...the eye is a bit soft too...I modified your image by cropping 1/4 of the oof sand in the foreground, this places more attention on your main subject and not the sand. cropped from the left, increased contrast and your color hues, and sprinkled a tad of sharpening on the bird see if this presents better to you...
Thanks Gus. I like your crop and I usually tune up the eye more like you did. The bird is pretty drab in reality and I am trying not to over due the saturation and sharpness. I notice most of the posts to the forums are pretty bright and contrasty. Just a matter of taste. Thanks for your comments. I will try to get the size right next time.
Most images come out on the flat side as captured. They all need processing of some kind, similar to the film enhancements. I have seen some "over" saturated and sharpened but they are the minority. Sharpening should be just right and saturation wise I add maybe 2 to 3 points on the average.
I like the re post by Gus All the enhancements did improve the image. I like the low angle approach. Rather seen them on their feet so you can get even lower for a better bg.
If you need any help with the posting or anything else please send an PM and will be glad to help.
