Hi Mike, I think your squirrel is sharp with nice colors although the right side has that dark shadow...I feel like he's ready to scamper away.

    Hi Mike,
I like the capture, in the sense that you got the little guy out in the open. Several issues that need our attention here. The image is under exposed, The background is over powering, and busy, you have hot spots in the diagonal branch leading toward the left side of the frame. I modified your composition to give your subject a better presentation. I cropped from the right side of the frame, taking half of the trunk out, cropped from the bottom. I cloned in some green and diffused the background. Lightened the main tree trunk, and darkened the diagonal branch, eliminating the hot spots by dodging and burning...see if this works for you...also lightened the dark spots to bring the little fellow out...

P.S. Mike I did the background very fast, so you might see some cloning artifacts. Your home work is to fine tune it...

.... cloning artifacts Gus .... you know what is coming next .... :)

Sure do like it Mike and great tittle !!! All things apply to these little guys as for birds !!! Mixed light is a killer, will always be difficult exposing and the exposure range will be more than your camera can capture. I like the re post by Gus !!! Glad your keeping eyes open for other subjects !!!!

    hi Gus,
you may have the answer to my prayers. can you tell me how you diffused the background? i have great difficulty in this area.
if i blur my backgrounds so that a lot is blurred, i have trouble with the edges of my subject. any help you can give me is appreciated.
thanks to you Alfred, for all of your tips.
and thanks to you Katie for your comment.
