Guys, just a gentle word first before the crits. The "C" word is a no - no!!! To give a definite clue, next letter is
    "l" and "o" :(:(:(:(

jenni, i think i know what you mean so i will give this a shot. would liked to have seen you either zoom out or move backwards a bit to include all of the tail of the bird in front. looks like you were blurring the bg. i'd go ahead and just blur the heck out of it some more and even blur out the bird in the bottom left corner.

there's a lot going on here. we might need a professional here. i dont mean to be negative, AT ALL, but this might be one that i would scrap. i do hope that you get another shot with these guys. they are beautiful!!!

Hi Jenni - Multiple birds are always going to be harder than a single bird, all the things you are thinking about for 1 (Head angle, pose) you know have to think about for three.

Here is my crtique - your expsoure looks good, nice catchlight in the eyes.
There are a couple of prolems though - the clipped tail is a no no (Looks like these guys tails are long)
The bird in the lower left corner (for me) doesnt add anything to the picture.
BG is busy and does have some bright spots - our eyes are automatically drawn to the brightest area's of a picture, which is taking the focus away from the birds.
All could be adjusted in P.S. if you were so inclined.

Agree with MR H a step or two backwards, would have got you the whole tail in the shot and maybe given you better cropping options afterwards.

    Keep them coming

    Hi Jeni,
I like your image and capture. Your composition had two major no, no's...:D You cut off the bird's tail...ouch... and you also cut off the third bird on the lower left corner. I modified your composition to show you what can be done in this case...I cropped the left portion of the frame, taking out the third bird, cropped just a tad from the bottom, then I added canvas on both the right and left sides of the frame; and cloned you the tip of the tail section and the matching habitat. In addition, I boosted the contrast just a tad, and the saturation. The head angle on the bird to the left of the perch needs a slight CCW rotation, looking at you. I hope you like...You did not do so bad...:) remember...practice makes better...:D:cool:

Hi Jeni One tough image with multiple birds. Need dof to cover them but will render detail in the bg Imagine it would be best to give yourself options and make some of each is the birds cooperate.

As far as the lower resident you need to include the entire bird or is eviction time !!! ... avoided the "C" word :) You did manage to good poses. On looking at the image again I would have tried wide open and concentrated on the two birds being in the same plane.
