It was a very disappointing Texas August morning because that 30% chance of rain turned into a completely overcast day with on and off showers. It was a bust as far as being able to photography anything at Brazos Bend State Park that day. I was headed back to my car when I spotted this juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Heron. A gentle rain was falling, but I decided to give it a go, anyway. When I put this up on the computer I saw the rain drops and felt a rather calm and even melancholy mood. That's when I decided to present a toned rendition in order to, I hope, impart that same mood to the viewer.

Canon 20D, 100-400mm @ 400mm, f/5.6, 1/60 sec., ISO 100, Better Beamer flash for fill. Lots of work in PhotoShop.

Nice tritone rendition, I especially love the rain drops. Leaving the eye untouched is a plus.

I totally agree with Fabs! That red eye against the maroon bird is striking!!! Very nice tritone indeed!

Those conditions usually make good image Paul. Some fill flash seems to help.

Very nice conversion but the basic image is very solid !!! I like it a lot !!!
