I took this shot from a boat. I'm not very confident in my flight shots. This was taken in Sarasota Bay where there are numerous rookeries. It originally was a horizontal and I added some canvas and made it a vertical. Did I crop it too tight?

    Hi Joanna

Wonderful action image and I like the mating eye. I find the crop a little tight and would love to have seen a little more separation of the head and beak from the wing as well as a little more head turn . Really like the open beak and your exposure was right on with a beautiful clean BG. Many thanks for sharing.

Its just not fair when these birds don't play ball and pose as we'd like! lol

Shots like this are why we take photographs. Maybe the crop is a little tight; other than that youve done great; and from a boat! Full marks!

This is a wonderful shot. Perfect exposure and great light and colors. The open bill is wonderful.

I, too, would have cropped a little less on the right and left.

    Hi Joanna -

I think the crop is too tight - I would like to see more room in front of the bird than behind,. I agree with Judy Lynn's other comments as well,. A lovely subject with nice breeding color. Nice light and good exposure!

Excellent exposure, nice detail and I would also like this as a horizontal.

Well done on a great capture.

I agree that the image is cropped a bit too tight and that the EXP control and the whites are excellent. And the bird is in nice breeding condition. It bugs me that the head merges with the far wing and (as it almost always does) that the head is turned a bit away from you. Lastly, the open bill is a plus.
